COVID-19 Exposure At Work? Here’s How To Clean

As the second wave of COVID-19 and the beginning of cold and flu season nears, keeping your business clean becomes all the more important. But what if you’ve had a COVID-19 exposure at your business? Maybe it was a staff member who wasn’t showing symptoms or a customer that was later tested positive – either way, it’s important that you respond quickly and ensure your space is clean so you can quickly reopen.

Here are our tips for getting your space sanitized and ready to re-open if your business has been impacted by a COVID-19 exposure.

Be Proactive

By being proactive with your safety and cleanliness measures, any exposure in your workplace should be limited. By keeping high-touch surfaces and common areas clean throughout the day, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing, the likelihood of transmission is low. If there is a confirmed exposure at your business, work to determine which areas may have been impacted, and focus on disinfecting and closing off these areas first.

Wait 24 Hours Before Cleaning

As per the CDC guidelines, wait 24 hours before cleaning to reduce the chance of being exposed to any potential respiratory droplets. This allows any droplets to evaporate and makes it much less likely that anyone who is cleaning will come into contact with droplets that carry disease.

Hire A Team of Professionals

Professional janitorial staff bring their years of experience, industrial tools, and commercial cleaning solutions to clean your space quickly and efficiently. Instead of having your staff spend twice as many hours cleaning ineffectively, keep them safe at home and bring in the pros who will keep themselves protected with PPE and industrial-strength cleaning. This will help you get back to business quickly and safely!

Supporting Our Front-Line Janitorial Workers

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had an opportunity to show our appreciation for front-line and essential workers that are working so hard to keep our communities healthy and safe. From grocery store workers to the nurses and doctors working in our hospitals, there are many roles that play an important part in keeping essential services open and making sure that our sick and vulnerable receive the care they need.

However, there is one group that is fighting COVID-19 on the frontlines that may not immediately come to mind, and that is the janitorial and cleaning staff that have taken on an important role in keeping hospitals, businesses, and community spaces disinfected and clean so that we are able to safely access services and support other front-line staff.

Janitorial workers can often be under-appreciated in the best of times – not many people take the opportunity to stop and thank their janitor, and many work when buildings are closed for the evening, making this important service go under the radar.

Now is the perfect time to acknowledge the hard work, effort, and expertise that professional cleaning staff bring to their work. A recent article in the Tyee explored what life is like for many cleaning staff, from longer hours and increased workload to the fears they face in keeping themselves and their families safe.

A career in janitorial services can be an amazing stepping stone to a better life for new Canadians, and those who may not have the language skills or education to begin another career right away. At Select Janitorial, we take incredible pride in training, supporting, and helping to grow the careers and success of each of our janitorial teams. We are grateful for the amazing clients who have always shown appreciation for their cleaning team but have been particularly supportive during these last few uncertain months.

It is an ongoing mission of ours to support the local business community, and especially now, we take our role to heart. Our janitorial staff are going above and beyond to serve and support their clients, and we appreciate the hard work and dedication they have shown.

If your business has a janitorial team, or you happen to see cleaning staff working hard at a hospital or community centre, take a moment to appreciate the important role they play in moving us towards a safer, more social climate.

On behalf of the team at Select Janitorial, thank you to all cleaning staff for their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice in the ongoing battle against COVID-19, and for their important role in keeping everyone healthy and safe in these uncertain times.

A Message from Select Janitorial During the COVID-19 Crisis

During this time of uncertainty across the globe, we at Select Janitorial have been reflecting on how important it is to come together as a community both when times are good, but especially when times are tough. It is in moments like these that businesses must truly reflect upon and live out their values. At Select Janitorial, we feel our responsibility is more than simply providing exceptional services to our clients, but to also impact the lives of those in our communities. From empowering our janitorial staff to building long-lasting relationships with our clients, Select Janitorial is committed to weathering this storm with the well-being of our staff, clients, and the Vancouver Island community at the forefront of our minds.

We recently came across a term that we think fits the current climate perfectly – disastertunity. It’s a non-sensical word that basically means “in every disaster also resides an opportunity”.  These challenging times have given us the opportunity to reflect with gratitude on how important our relationships are. We have always prided ourselves on building personal, trusting relationships between our cleaners and our clients, and this is all the more apparent during times of uncertainty. Our cleaners are more committed than ever to serving our clients diligently and thoroughly, and our janitorial staff have felt the appreciation and gratitude from their clients in return.

Our cleaning staff are truly a part of the team of the businesses they care for and are taking their responsibility during this time to heart. During times of economic downturn, we think of both the businesses and the individuals that are impacted, and the support that we have seen in both directions has shown the true compassion, care, and strength of both our cleaners and the clients we serve.

While any business can set themselves apart with their prices or the quality of their service, we know that the relationships we nurture and community we foster is the key to a successful business in the long-term. We look forward to continuing to support our current family of clients, as well as serving new businesses in their time of need through this crisis.

We have seen the tenacity, creativity, and connection of the Vancouver Island business community truly shine during this uncertain time and are proud to both be a part of this community, as well as serve it with integrity, passion, and pride.

If your business is looking for additional janitorial services during this time, we would love to collaborate to provide the ideal service that meets your needs. Give us a call, and we’ll be happy to help!
